Teeth Whitening Tips

Our top 10 tips to keep your teeth glowing white after whitening, or to give you a head-start before you start the whole whitening process.

#1: Do not consume food with high sugar content

This is hard advice to follow (because we all love sweet things) but it's extremely important if you want to keep your teeth in top condition. Most people know that sweets like candy and chocolate cause cavities. To keep your teeth in pristine condition and healthy looking, try to cut down on the amount of sweet things that you consume.

#2: Avoid coffee and tea

Drinking excessive amounts of coffee or tea will stain your teeth, and it is something to avoid if you can. If coffee or tea is a part of your lifestyle and you just can't stop drinking it, then try not to hold the liquid against your teeth for an extended time, and swallow it quickly.

The less contact with your teeth the better. Immediately after finishing your coffee or tea, drink a glass of water. This will not only help to wash the beverage from your teeth, but drinking water is also healthy for you.

#3: Brush your teeth at least twice daily

Brushing your teeth is one of the most important things to do, not just to keep your teeth white, but also for general hygiene's sake. You should at the very least brush your teeth once in the morning when you wake up, and at night before you go to sleep.

It would be even better if you are able to brush your teeth after every meal. This will help to keep general stains away, and keep those pearly whites, white. No doubt your co-workers, clients and friends whom you talk to will also appreciate it.

#4: Don't smoke

If you are a smoker, try to cut back or quit entirely. Not just to keep your teeth white, but also for your general health and well-being.

Cigarettes are a major teeth stainer, causes lung cancer, increases global warming, you get the point. If you cannot cut back on smoking, then you will need to work much more harder then non-smokers to keep your teeth white.

#5: Rub raw strawberries on your teeth

It may sound strange rubbing strawberries on your teeth, but strawberries contain an enzyme which can help to whiten teeth.

The best way is to mash the strawberries into a paste and brush it on, then leave it to sit for five minutes. After you wash it off, make sure to brush your teeth to remove any sugars or strawberry residue.

#6: Eat more crunchy food

Crunchy foods that require a lot of chewing like apples, carrots, celery and broccoli are great because they act as a natural abrasive to help clean away any plaque build-up.

#7: Brush your teeth with baking soda

Many toothpastes contain baking soda due to it's great whitening effect. Baking soda is used in many different cleaning products, and is a great natural cleaner. You can also use the power of baking soda on your teeth.

Dip your toothbrush into some baking soda, then brush away. The taste may not be pleasant, but the results should be worth it.

#8: Rub your teeth with lemon and salt

Mix some lemon juice with one teaspoon of salt until you get a paste, then rub onto your teeth and leave it for a few minutes before rinsing off.

Lemon is a natural bleaching agent. Many people swear by this natural whitening method.

#9: Drink through a straw

Using a straw means that the liquid bypasses your teeth without making contact. This is especially recommeded for drinks that are likely to stain tooth enamel, like coffee, tea, red wine and cola.

#10: Rinse your mouth reguarly and drink plenty of water

Water helps to clean your mouth and your teeth. Rinse your mouth after meals, and drink water after every meal, and every beverage.
